Butane torches useful for more than just crème brûlée
When people think of small butane torches, they often think of delightful desserts such as crème brûlée or other sweets than can be caramelized or set ablaze.
In reality, such a torch can not only help make numerous different dishes, it can also be useful on DIY projects around the house, according to a spokesperson for FireMaid, a company that sells the FireMaid Micro Butane Torch on Amazon.com.
“These little torches are amazingly versatile,” the spokesperson said. “With a knob on the back to regulate the flame, our torch can produce temperatures up to 2730° F. That means they can be used for everything from cooking to plumbing repair to making jewelry.”
Dishes that can make use of the open flame from a torch abound. Not only can the torch be used to melt the sugar for crème brûlée or set alight desserts such as Bananas Foster, it can also char the skins of peppers for spicy dishes, or can be used to melt the cheese on top of dishes such as French Onion Soup.
People who make or repair their own jewelry also find a torch an essential accessory for projects, the spokesperson said.
“Because the flame gets so hot, it’s able to easily melt silver solder, which is used to hold pieces together in jewelry. It can also melt the edges of a broken or chipped piece of jewelry, allowing for a clean, nearly invisible repair.”
Torches are also able to save people money, the spokesperson said.
“For those who are willing to do DIY plumbing, a torch is really handy,” the spokesperson said. “It can be used to sweat copper pipes for brazing or soldering, and can also be used to help install patches or other repairs. That eliminates the need to call an emergency plumbing service and the enormous bills that come with those calls.”
